went to swig for a friends birthday party. the place was cool, not really my style though as i prefer clubs. |

We did try Swig on a weekday and had a wonderful time. We were able to find a spot at the end of the bar. It was not too packed...just the right amount and blend. The fireplaces add a nice touch. I was impressed mainly by how clean it was overall...the bathrooms especially. After trying a few places over a couple of days, I was beginning to think that all drinking establishments in SF had to look shoddy and have graffitti all over the bathrooms. Swig has a clean, modern interior that caters to a well dressed crowd. There is not much room for dancing but the live dj was playing a semi-mellow blend. It's not for a really young crowd. The crowd looked to be around young 30s but nice looking and profesional. |

I had heard about this place from about 3 different people, all suggesting I give it a once over, so on a slow Saturday night I decided to swing by and check it out. The website is impressive and the decor pictured looked like it was my cup of tea. I went in, did a lap and walked out after about a minute and a half. Biggest reason for leaving- no ventilation. The place was sweltering. I postulate that it was a combination of overcrowding (there was barely 3 feet of space to move around in) and the presence of a fire. It was also a very pleasant night in the city, so why the fire? The music was typical top 40 played by a run of the mill DJ. It was also impossible to get to the bar. On the upside, the bar could not have been more complete and I bet the drinks are fantastic- it appeared to be a place that would be into making a quality cocktail. To sum it up, this place should not try to be a club- it is a bar and should not encourage dancing- there is simply no space. Might be good on a week day, but someone else is going to have to find out... |
