Yummy Drinks, Amazing Music, Fabulous Hostess, Beautiful People; the perfect mix of 20-somethings. A must visit when in the Bay for me.....It does get a tad too crowded sometimes, but other than that, I love it 7/2/2008 2:58:26 PM

Been here three times now in my short-lived stint in SF and each time it seems to get better... Door staff are really strict but seems to keep a good mix inside, layout is great and bar staff are a lot of fun. Highly recommended! Good music too, although I don't think venues should be judged on music unless you're a real regular as DJ rosters tend to be pretty variable. 6/17/2008 2:34:00 PM

This is my 3rd review on Harlot and my last. I went here last Saturday to meet friends. We arrived around 11pm and sure to notice a massive clutter of people gathered outside. With no troubles getting in things were looking good, wrong, the place was jammed packed as usual, leaving no floor space to walk around or maneuver. We went upstairs to meet friends in the VIP balcony, only to find more of a cluster jam. The crowd was below average, the music was awful and the place was extremely over packed. I love Christy the 'VIP host' and was happy to see her, but this was my last time visiting Harlot, much less writing a review on this place, goodbye Harlot. 6/4/2008 2:45:35 PM

Harlot is my favorite club/lounge in San Francisco. Not just because it's beautifully done (yes, I have a weakness for design) but it captures the soul of SF so very well. Martel and Nabiel are 'old school' San Francisco. Their roots in SF are deep and respected.

Yes, Harlot has been known to have an 'interesting' door. It's not the typical San Francisco door situation. It's the closest thing to what one would experience in LA or NY. While attempting to implement this kind of filtering mechanism can be extremely risky in SF (a brutal and unforgiving backlash can occur) Harlot has been able to pull it off with style. While many '1s' have been given to Harlot on Yelp due to Harlot's door policy, I frankly think it's very refreshing. Despite being open for some time now, Harlot attracts a great crowd.

Like all places, there will be off nights. No place can be a 'hit' all the time. Make sure to go when there is a special event occurring. Harlot also seems to be a favorite destination for after parties (assuming the previous event ends around 11-ish).

The bar is the only difficult thing about Harlot. The places gets very packed and movement around the bar (especially upstairs can get tricky). The queue for the upstairs bathroom can be long as well so I would advise everyone to make their way downstairs.

All in all, love this place. Love the owners. Love the scene. You can't go wrong here.

Enjoy ~m

Harlot is awesome - one of my favorite places. Every time we go there it's usually a very fun time: great crowd, good music and fine decor. Bouncers are doing a good job there of keeping the ratio even, however, sometimes it's very hard to get inside because of that. Still a great place though. 5/27/2008 1:29:20 PM

Celebrated my birthday in the upstairs VIP on 5/16. The hostess, Kristy, was great and extremely accommodating. Our server was attentive and timely..

Will defintely go back..

This is my honest opinion. Great music, nice decor. The dance floor is too small and the design of the venue is awkward because when there is more than 100 people there it's impossible to walk. The doorman doesn't know how to do his job, and there's always too many guys at Harlot. Sausage Fest 101. Great parking though ;) 5/12/2008 10:06:13 AM

Before I begin, let me be a cheapskate for a minute and ramble for a while on a certain sore topic for the nightlife junkies like myself: COVER CHARGE. Why on Earth do so many clubs (and even bars) in San Francisco have it? I understand if there is a big-name DJ playing in a mega club like 1015 or Ruby Skye that needs to be specially promoted, secured, sound-checked, etc. But if you are going out simply to drink and socialize, and the DJ in the booth is none other than Mickey Mick of Daly City, a cover concept is ridiculous, to say the least. In European and South American clubs, you at least get a free drink with the cover, but here, you just pay for the privilege to walk past the bouncer. And it's even worse in New York.

Which brings me to Harlot. No cover charge at this place, people. AND, it is one of the freshest, most stylish additions to the SOMA-meets-Financial-District nightlife area of San Francisco.

The place is a tad small, but that makes for even better socializing potential. Drinks are well-made and reasonably priced. Bar staff - and those who read my reviews know how important that is to me - is polite and attentive.

What really stands this place out, is the interior decor. I don't know who the owners have hired to do it, but the job is excellent. I am talking paintings of nudes on walls AND the ceiling, cowhide-covered seats and mini-LCD monitors built in walls. The whole theme is gothica meets red velvet meets rusty metal meets leather. Bathrooms even have attendants, which I am not too crazy about, but what the hell. Let's all go pee in style. "Would you like me to shake it for you, sir?" - "Yes please, just a couple jerks while I finish my SMS". Again, I digress.

Music at Harlot can vary, but somehow, even on slow nights, there is always a live DJ who usually churns out decent sound even out of top 40. There is a dance floor, which does not, however, overwhelm the interior yet has definite appeal if not to dance then at least stare at scantily-clad girls' bobbing behinds.

I personally wish the room upstairs was open for regular folks (as opposed to the ever-present VIPs) more often. Also, tables tend to be occupied by the ever flashy bottle-service groups, which makes seating space go down drastically. And I have not yet made up my mind on the door staff. Sometimes I whisk right through, other times, it's a wait in the rain, although thankfully, the queues are not usually long.

In a nutshell, however, Harlot is one of my favourite clubs at this time.

"In a dark alley she waits".... this club/lounge is located down an alley and there is a certain sexy mysteriousness about it. Harlot is a very intimate club that gets super crowded, but it's a great place to meet urban professionals. The dance floor is small, but you're usually too busy having fun with friends to notice. Upstairs is a VIP area that overlooks the lower level and it's a chill place to relax. There's an element of the "outdoors" inside, with random trees and branches strategically arranged. I like it, though. They have a great happy hour too! 4/26/2008 8:47:17 PM

Very fun! If it's crowded, it's a good idea to get a table upstairs. It is great to start out there, go down to the dance floor, and have a less crowded option to chill at upstairs. I loved the theme of the club, too. 4/24/2008 3:34:35 PM

The interior is off the hook! Versatile music selection (usually) with a easy going crowd - good combo 4/23/2008 4:28:02 PM

Sometimes things come good in small packages. Harlot is a fun, intimate spot that always has good music playing. Always enjoy the equal ratio and good people. 4/16/2008 8:22:18 PM

A lovely smoking cage greets you near the entrance and decently sized bars on the ground floor and mezzanine serve you well-mixed drinks. An indie - goth decor pervades with stylish interiors, lighting and a provocative painting of Eve presiding over the stage. Indie nights have beautifully segued into engaging top 40 / hip hop mixers. This place is a total blast. Love going-- just don't go too early and check what's going on before you go. 3/29/2008 4:53:27 PM

My first party night in SF I went to Harlot, and I had a good time. It reminded of some cool (underground) Manhattan spot. Music was cool and people were great. 3/17/2008 7:40:10 PM
