While no longer possessing the 'scene' it once had, the food and decor are still a draw. I highly recommend the Salmon Sashimi with Caviar, and the Lobster Dynamite. The Crab Rolls are amazing as well. I would stay away (far far away) from the Almond Crusted scallops. Like the name of the dish suggested, I was expecting an almond 'crust'. What we got was more like Almond Armor. I love almonds and I love scallops. I really didn't think I could go wrong with this one but I did. To top things off, you need to perform a little ritual with this particular meal in order to diffuse the overpowering nuttiness. You are supposed to sprinkle it with some salt, pour a little lemon juice over it, and then dip it in the sauce that comes with it. I'm not sure what happens if you get the order wrong, but the prescribed method wasn't really doing the trick.
And back to the scene ... we were seated beside a group of people that had to let out each and every laugh (and there were a lot of them) with grossly over-enthusiastic cackles. It was simply brutal. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up with each monstrous offense. This behaviour made me long for the early days of Katsuya Hollywood.
Besides, our neighbors and the almond armor plated scallops, the overall experience was good. Diedre was accomodating as always, the wait staff was fantastic, and I had wonderful company. Cheers ~m |

This place is fun and beautiful. The decor is amazing, and the people are sexy and fun. The food is delish and beautifully prepared. One of my favorites in LA. |

Do not go in a huge group. This is definitely a more intimate place and the service and experience hinders if you have 10+. The private rooms are perfect for groups larger than 5 but expect disaster if the numbers are high. Take larger parties elsewhere but consider Katsuya for dates or casual outings. |

I enjoyed their avocado rolls. Also love their private dining room to the left of the entrance, the curtain closes you off from the rest of the restaurant. |

When I visit LA, the friends I have there generally whisk me away to whatever is the "it" space @ the time and on 12/21/07 Katsuya was only a couple of months old. Since we were just going for drinks, as usual we didn't make reservations, but they found us a spot at the bar and I'm glad that they did! Our bartender was FANTASTIC! Alas I do not remember her name (it was a month+ ago) but as I've said before, service is everything to me... She made sure we never went w/o a drink and even concocted new ones we'd never heard of! Also, the khakis and grey shirts they all wear never looked better!
Finally I couldn't help myself, and ordered food... I vividly remember ordering my Herb Crusted Seared Tuna w/ Mustard Sauce and almost dying... it was SO fantastic that I was NOT keen on sharing with my friends LOL. All in all it was a great start to a fantastic evening!
The only negative point (and this is purely from a design aspect) are the hidden restrooms, and does anyone else get weired out by the Geisha faces that appear in the mirror? (alright... that part IS kind of cool!) Aside from that... I don't believe I've EVER been in a "sexier" eatery... really... just under being OVER done, the images, finishes and shape of this restaurant are all phenomenal...
I think that wraps it up... oh, and of course Poparazzi was waiting outside for some of the Hollywood hot-shots that appeared... but you can't eat the clientele, so this isn't a huge point.
All in all... I can't wait to go back!

SBE seems to never fail, this place rocks! I went 2 weeks ago on a Saturday Night and was not only impressed by the crowd but the food/drinks were a 10, hands down. Try any speciality drink and sushi roll, they are all good. Kinda funny running into Brad Pitt by the bar, small world, haha, be sure to make a reservation a week in advance, enjoy! |

Excellent food. Friendly, all-smiles waitstaff. Strong drinks. Attentive service. Edgy decor. Almond-encrusted scallops to die for. Even the 50 million paparazzi were polite, lol. Go there. |

The only reason I am giving Katsuya a rating of 4 and not 5, is because I did not have the opportunity to try the food. Next time I go, I plan on it and I am sure my rating will change to a 5 immediately! The place has a very fun and lively vibe. There was a kiwi drink that I tried that was simply amazing - strong, but tasted oh so sweet! Had a great time just hanging out with friends at the bar. The staff was very friendly and did not have the snobby attitude that you often find at new trendy hot spots. Also had a few celebrity sightings - for a girl from the bay, that can always be a bit exciting since we dont get those that often in SF :0)
will go back to try the sushi!

After eating some of the top sushi restaurants in LA including Sushi Roku, Koi, and Katana I would have to say Katsuya goes a step further. They have great food with original ideas. The service is impeccable. The ambiance is clean and classy but funky. Ive been there for a full dinner and for appetizers and drinks. Each time has been great. Along with the A list Hollywood who's who dining there you get not only great food but a great experience. As far as price goes if you have to ask then you haven't eaten sushi in Hollywood. If you order dessert i would skip the fruit platter and go straight for the chocolate cake wink wink Miss Burks :) |

Katsuya is one of the sexiest spaces I have visited. From the painted eyes and lips that adorn the walls to the kimono on the ceiling above the bar. This place screams cool. The staff is attractive and very pleasant and professional. Diedre (Manager) was very personable and obviously knows how to run high end establishments. At the time of this review Katsuya is about 2 months old. It is still a stomping ground for some very noteworthy people. Review etiquette dictates that I be intentionally vague about this particular topic but there were a few Oscar winners, and HBO heavy hitters enjoying some well executed sushi. Besides style and the "scene" the food is very very good. I am looking forward to another visit in order to explore more of the menu. You will want to sample the baked crab roll. Trust me on this one. 5 Stars from me. |
