MANGAROSA, a North Beach hot spot, dubs its cuisine “Italian with a Brazilian twist,” but with Portuguese splashed all across the menu and cachaça all over the bar, it might be more accurate to say it’s Brazilian with an Italian twist. Dishes like Bolinho de Bacalhau and Pastéis de Carne, Queijo e Frango put a fine-dining spin on the street food of Rio de Janeiro. The more classically Italian eats on the menu have unexpected flavors and details like polenta croutons, crispy hot on the outside and creamy delicious on the inside, in a warm spinach salad or a twelve-year-aged balsamic with hints of dark cherry paired with a crispy chicken (Frango Assado). But it is the Brazilian Steak Réchaud that brings MANGAROSA consistent acclaim and attention. |

This is a great place for a date. I have been to Mangarosa a number of times and almost everytime it has been great food. They have fun drinks and a good atmosphere too. After you are done eating, it is in the heart of North Beach so it is very easy to go grab drinks somewhere else after dinner.
There is one time I remember the Raviolis tasted kind of funky and I asked for something different and they took care of it right away. However, I have had the Raviolis since then and they were great. So I think that the one bad iinstance was a rarity and the service more than made up for the one blemish.
I would strongly recommend this restaurant. |

This is the most amazing place to eat in North Beach. The food is always great and I love the wine selection, not to mention the aura of great house music set the stage for my favorite restaurant to entertain my out-of-town guests. This has a true SF flair with much class! |
