I finally made it out to this well known San Francisco establishment. Town Hall definitely did not disappoint. The menu shares some similarities with Town in San Carlos, which must be a sister restaurant. First off, we were seated outside since it was an unusually warm San Francisco evening. Let's start off with the barbequed shrimp which may be their signature appetizer. I needed to order more bread to soak up the bold and robust sauce the savory shrimp arrived in. Next were the fried green tomatoes, tuna tartare served with garlic chips in a tobasco vinaigrette. To die for. The perfect contrast to the shrimp. The cold tartare married perfectly with fried green tomatoes was a surprising treat. The two apps alone would have me coming back over and over again! Next, we shared the entree which was a beef short rib, potato gnocchi, artichoke in a red wine jus. Simply exquisite as well. Comfort food does not do this venue justice. California Contemporary dining at its finest! An instant classic. |

I finally made it to dinner here & it was FABULOUS! We had the BBQ'd shrimp for an appetizer which was really nice. For dinner I ordered the rib eye which usually isn't my first selection of meat, but it melted in my mouth!! YUMMY! They cooked it perfectly & my date had the halibut & it was just as yummy. (Much smaller portion, but perfect if accompanied with an appetizer.) They have a sticky toffee cake that they are known for, but it was incredibly sweet & we didn't finish it, so eat only if you have a serious sweet tooth! The staff was great & decor was nice too. I will definitely be a regular here now! |

A wise man once said, "politics is for people who have a passion for changing life but lack a passion for living it."
While traditionally a town hall was a center for politics, San Francisco should be proud that our Town Hall is a center for delicious food at reasonable prices.
Which is good if you view life like I do -- and simply have a passion for eating it.

I went to this restaurant for New Year's Eve - great food for a chilly night! They had *good* Southern/Cajun food for California...I'm originally from Mississippi so I may be a little spoiled when it comes to this type of food. Thank goodness I found a place that serves grits, though! =)
Needless to say it's Southern food, so most items are heavy. If you're in the mood for comfort food, this is a great place to go. The ham & cheese toast was good if you're up for something interesting thing to try. |

Town Hall, Great place to sit and enjoy good food, I recommend sitting at the communal table, reservations are needed for a private table, however the communal table is nice, every time I've eaten there I have a great time and enjoy the company of other people, communal table sort of force you to be proactive in the dinning experience, by engaging the people around you, talking about food, wine and cocktails. Town hall enjoy! Ya'll |

Yes the menu is a bit lacking, and the prices are a bit inflated... but the food is still fabulous! I tend to remember the servers at restaurants, but here... not so much. Not that he didn't do a great job, but I was so entertained sitting at the "communal" table! If you don't make reservations (and I never do) then you end up sitting at a table set for 10-12... and it's really the best. A great way to meet new people and taste new foods. I have a steak (as always) and my brother the fried chicken (was very disappointed to find out that they don't serve it for lunch... darn!) and the broccoli fondue is SOOO great! 3.5 hours and a clogged artery later we left full and very content... great place! |

We stopped in to Town Hall before going out one evening to be pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere, and the food. We didn't have a full meal, but sampled oysters (gotta love Hog Island), and other appetizers. Everything was very good, and the atmosphere was both cool and friendly simultaneously (which can be hard to achieve). Service was great, drinks were good, food was great. would definitely return and recommend. . . |

Had dinner at Town Hall last night and loved it. I had the barbeque shrimp as an appetizer (fantastic) and the rib-eye for a main course. The marbling was perfect (sometimes rib-eye cuts can be much too fatty) and it was just as good as most steaks you would get from a steak house. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place. |

I have been to Townhall a number of times with different clients as it is one of the standard restaurants that we take clients. I believe that the food is good. However, the menu is small and the food is a bit overpriced for the quality it presents. Where I do recommend attending this restaurant at least once in your life, do expect to pay more than the food is worth. One thing to take into consideration though is that it gets somewhat loud in the restaurant, so I would not recommend going here on a date where you actually want to hear what your date is saying. |

I love fried chicken. I don't know what magic powers a bucket of hot oil and some breading has, but I could easily eat six fried chicken breasts. Rather I should say I have eaten six friend chicken breasts. Bake it and I can do one on a good day.
I stopped in Town Hall for the first time late on a Thursday night. We sat immediately at the bar and had a plate of tasty oysters just a few minutes later. After some light sing-a-long (the Stones were on, what do you want I should do?) I had my life changed by the Golden Plate of Chicken that some sweet angel of destiny laid before me. Seriously. It was crunchy, light, moist, flavorful, well portioned, everything I would ever want from a plate of fried chicken was there, including bacon gravy!
But it didn't stop there. Our server (who was awesome I might add) recommended the sticky toffee cake with a passion that bordered on the sexual. Intrigued, I ordered one and almost fell off my bar stool when I put it in my mouth. I know we just met, but Sticky Toffee Cake. . . Will you marry me?
Thumbs up Town Hall. Atmosphere, food, volume, people all come together really well to make an excellent dining experience. I'll be back. Lots.

This is a fun place to go... The drinks have a kick (try the Dorathy Parker) and the food is awesome. They have a variety of different people there, we've seen professionals like Willie Brown and his group of suits to hotties (like the members of eVeletRope... hot). Don't be afraid to get a loud, the people won't mind. Sit at the bar or the communal table and meet other people. If your experience is anything but exceptional go see Doug (one of the owners).
Cheers. |

that fish wrapped in prosciutto paired with reisling is just fabulous! dessert was delectable, so may i suggest to always leave room for it. so perfect with company to share each other's dish but you can also come by yourself and share the communal table (if space is available.) leave your diet at the door and indulge. be seen. taste and enjoy. |

Love to swing by here with friends after work, sit on the patio and have a few stogies over dinner. I've yet to try something that isn't delicious. The rabbit especially, it's somewhat rare to see game meats in SF and this was astutely prepared. The only thing they get a point off for is drinks - could use a bit more punch. |

Town Hall is my neighborhood eatery so i go there so much they know my drink and what i like to eat. Kinda like Cheers, where everybody knows your name. I like it because you can go with friends and have a great time or you can go alone and sit at the bar and have a drink and a nice meal in peace or mingle with the other people at the bar. The staff is awesome. The owner Doug is very personable and friendly. It is warm and inviting and bustling with the downtown crowd. Sometimes you can see local celebrities there too. The food is amazing such as barbecued shrimp, fried chicken, the steak, the soups, the bread...ok...just about everything. Bottom line...it is consistently very good. |

Can this restaurant be any more consistent? I went again for the 10th (or so) time last week and once again the food was superb, the service was attentive, and the place was packed....on a Tuesday night! All hail Town Hall as the new juggernaut in town. |
