The interesting dishes really keep me coming back for more. The crowd can go either way depending on the night! |

This is a good place to eat if you plan on drinking here. The food is pretty good, but the menu is very limited. However, there is variety in the type of Asian food (from Chinese to Thai to Indian). It's a good idea to get a table, order some appetizers, and drink before the crowd starts pouring in. Once the music starts hitting, it can get pretty packed in there. |

I used to like going here, but it gets too crammed too fast. After 9pm on any Thurs-Sat can you forget about trying to get a drink at the bar. I think the best night is karoake wednesday nights. Its slow enough where you can enjoy your space, yet busy enough where if you cant dance, it wont be that noticeable :p |

Straits--The restaurant has great energy, good family-style dining, and the Straits at Santana Row has a great patio for people watching. The hostesses were not lively and didn't seem to care about doing what's best for the customer...however our server was very nice. It turns into a club when the restaurant stops serving food and seems to be a main attraction at Santana Row. I wouldn't call it a great dining experience... |

A trendy, contemporary restaurant with a Singaporean menu to please your every taste. From spicy curries to, pungent shrimp pastes, they have assembled a variety of dishes to please every palette. The sweet and sour deep fried fish is elegantly presented with head and tail; curled and positioned on the platter as if still swimming.
For those who long for South Asian cooking ala Malaysian, Indian etc. this is heaven.
Needless to say, this trendy restaurant reflects the ethos of Santana Row. |

The food...the atmosphere...I have always had a good time at Straits. And the only reason I rated them a 4 is because consistency isn't one of their strong points when it comes to their food. Case in point - stay away from the noodle dishes when they are busy - they tend to be overcooked. |

I can't help it...Straits is a good ole standby for me! Just went there this evening with a good friend...his choice, and I had no compalints with it. I've never had a bad meal nor bad service here, and this night was no exception. We started with the Mango Mojitos and the Ahi...yes, the cocktails were a bit strong, but nonetheless a 'happy' way to start the dinner. I ordered a favorite of mine, the curried chicken with potatoes (I can't remember the real name)...always a flavorful dish that's not too heavy with the curry flavor, just the way I like it. My new favorite, though, was the Lemongrass Beef...had it for the first time tonight, and I'll be sure to order it again. It was a skirt steak prepared to medium perfection...tender and with its natural flavor enhanced and heightened by the sauce served alongside it...then wonderfully accented by steamed bok choy and (surprisingly) seasoned french fries. We topped off our dinner with the coconut flan dessert...very light and refreshing in its flavor, and accented by little banana slices, a scoop of coconut ice cream, berries and a macaroon...like a tropical hodge-podge, and very pleasing to the palate...a perfect sweet ending! I'm sure I'll be coming back again...but that's just how I am...like a good friend, Straits has been good to me...so I shall remain faithful. |

Straits @ Santana Row is a social gathering of all groups of people. Those who actually can afford the ambiance at Santana Row, and those that are trying desperately to achieve the ambiance and stature of the quite privileged. I've been to Straits several times through the past years and let's just say the restaurant isn't getting any better. The service is so so...depending on what night it is and which server you get. I've had great service and bad service. I don't have a favorite at Straits but will recommend the oysters in the half shell. They bring you a mix of 3 different types and they all hit the spot. Guess you can't go wrong w/something not cooked?! The Caesar salad is nothing to write about. The ahi sashimi tower is decent and could be a meal. The pad thai noodles w/lobster has an incredible flavor mix of indian curry and thai...interesting yet somewhat satisfying. The ribs are ribs...the chicken...just chicken. The drinks are a little on the heavy side..I've had the Mango Martini's and the "LYE"-CHEE martinis...both heavily sedated w/alcohol, however the coconut martini is quite pleasant. Maybe someone should mention to the staff that it's not LYE-chee..but rather pronounced LII-chee. I thought that was funny. All in all, if you want to be seen in SJ, Straits serves it's purpose. |

Straits is a great place... I had my bday dinner here...I love Wednesday nights for the Kareoke!!! The food is really good...Try the Garlic Noodles or the Steak...Not the Mandarin Steak... It's really good... Also the Rotti bread is soooo good... I personally don't like indian food nor curry, but the curry they have here is sooo good... Also the Curry Chicken is off the hook! As for drinks, the Mojito is really good, I've never had the Mango Mojito, but I agree that they pour a lot of alcohol in the drinks. I'm not complaining though, I'm sort of a light weight. So two drinks and i'm all good!! lol Overall this place rates a 4/5. |

I had lunch at Straits yesterday for the first time. The wait staff at Straits are generally attractive and the interior decor is pleasant. Mango mojitos appear to be a recurring theme with me so I ordered one. I was disappointed with it. Not that I am a light weight, but it was much stronger than it needed to be. I ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer and they were really good. I would definitely recommend trying them (however, I don't think I've been to a place where I didn't like the crab cakes). For my main course I had the Tamarind Beef (I hope I got the spelling correct). The first piece left a mildly bizarre after-taste. Can something be too 'beefy'??. The next few pieces were a little more normal but I could have just been getting used to the taste by then. Overall, I didn't understand the hype. I might go there one more time and skip the tamarind beef. |
