I had very high expectations for Butter...it was okay, but didn't quite live up to the hype I had expected. The food, service, and scene were okay. The ambiance was fresh + chic, and the downstairs clubby space was pretty nice. It is probably still one of the better food + scene places in the city. We ordered a bottle of Moutard and Gruner Veltliner with dinner...both were great companions to the food since it's somewhat light/contemporary American cuisine. We had a few drinks at the bar pre+post and the bartender service was very good. |

hated this place. was there on a monday night and was highly disappointed. heard it's "the only" good place to be on a monday night in nyc. went to the door, handed the head door guy 200 bucks for a party of 6 of us and he told us to go in and we'd have a table immediately. i promised him more money as well.
slipped him 300 more 30 minutes later and he promised to come back to escort us downstairs, where the club was. long story short, after 2 hours of giving us the run around and now we're 500 deep + a massive drink tab at the bar upstairs, we decided to pack it up and head out.
oh and just a side note, i snuck downstairs to get a peek at what we were "missing" and it was completely horrible. u couldn't walk. there was no room. it was small down there, super hot, and it smelt of weed. we waited for nothing. we were missing nothing, except our 500 bucks. |
